Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Year 7 Literacy and Numeracy Catch-up Premium

If your child requires extra support and has low attainment in English or Maths we provide additional interventions to help your child feel more confident, and gain the knowledge required to narrow the gap between them and their peers.

Identifying low attaining students

Early intervention is key to identifying students who are on the lower spectrum of attainers. These students are identified through liaising with primary schools during the year 6-7 transition process, observations during summer school and a screening process in their first two weeks with us in September. We want every child to reach their potential with us and realise their dreams, therefore we take this process seriously and with sensitivity.

The transfer and transition process into secondary school

Our core inclusion team are part of the Year 6-7 transition meetings and gather information on baseline and individual data such as KS2 SATs. In Year 7 Cognitive Ability Tests (CATs) in Non-verbal, Verbal and Quantitative Ability provide additional information for those students who are functioning below the average level

Reading tests give a reading age and standardization score indicating students' ability in reading and comprehension against those of the same age.

Programmes are either run in small groups or on an individual one-to-one basis in order to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for learning. In closing the gap on attainment, we want our young people to feel empowered and confident in their abilities and progress, so endeavour to make each lesson tailored for specific needs.
