Uniform
Uniform Requirements
We take pride in each and every one of our pupils at the academy and know that they are equally proud to be wearing their academy badge on their uniforms.
Please read this guidance, alongside the Oasis National Uniform Policy - which outlines responsibilities held by the academy, parents/carers and students. You can also access this policy through our Policies page.
Why do we have a uniform?
We recognise the value of having academy uniforms for the following reasons:
- Inclusion – uniforms promote our belief of inclusion for all
- A sense of belonging – the uniform promotes a sense of belonging in each student, academy and the Trust.
- Safety – if all the students in our Trust wear a clearly recognisable, correctly branded uniform it is easy to identify strangers in the academy. On the way to and from the academy it also affords a degree of safety as the students are part of a large body of young people who will look out for each other
- Preparation for the future – many jobs require staff to wear a uniform and even if there isn’t a uniform there is often a dress code. Uniform helps young people get used to dressing to a prescribed standard. It also helps them know the difference between formal and informal dress
- Value for money – good quality uniform should be seen as effective value for money by most parents / carers
- Relieves students from fashion ‘stress’ – a localised academy uniform eliminates the stress placed on students to purchase and wear expensive, fashionable items
- A sense of pride – we all feel proud of our young people when they are well dressed in the uniform. Uniform and PE/sport kits also help students to demonstrate pride in their academy
- Helps raise aspirations – the smarter you feel the more you believe you can achieve

Appearance/Jewellery
Hairstyles should be tidy and of a natural colour. Minimum hair length is grade 2. No extreme hairstyles are permitted e.g. tramlines.
Makeup may not be worn in Years 7 and 8. As students transfer to Years 9-11, they will be allowed to wear discreet make up e.g. mascara, tinted moisturiser and clear lip gloss. No false eyelashes are permitted.
Nails: false nails and nail varnish are not permitted.
Eye Lashes: false eye lashes are not permitted.
Piercings: one small (5mm), plain stud earring in the lobe of each ear only. No other piercings are permitted. Clear retainers may be worn in their place. The excuse that the piercing has just been fitted, will not be accepted.
Jewellery: a watch may be worn, but no other jewellery is permitted.
Footwear: trainers are only permitted to be worn in PE.
A sensible outdoor coat may be worn to school over the Academy blazer. Hoodies and tracksuit tops are not permitted. Students are not allowed to wear a coat or jumper without the Oasis Sholing blazer.
Personal Belongings
Please do not send your children to the academy with personal belongings other than those required for study. Mobile phones & headphones will be confiscated.
The school accepts no responsibility for lost items.
Physical Education
Students must remove ALL jewellery for PE. They are not allowed to tape piercings due to health and safety regulations. New piercings should be done at the beginning of the summer holidays so that they can be removed for PE lessons.
Students are expected to change into PE kit for every PE lesson.
Religious items
Some students may wish to wear distinctive garments for religious reasons. As an academy we consult with our parents and community representatives to determine which religious garments are allowed at school.
Should parents require their child to wear a specifically religious garment or symbol, they should contact the academy (i.e., the Principal) who, after consultation, will contact the parent with a decision.
The wearing of religious symbols or other insignia is permitted; however, these will need to be covered. Those academies that have a zero-jewellery rule will need to balance this against any potential unintentional discrimination under the Equality Act for those students who wish to wear religious symbols.
Second hand uniform
To ensure that uniforms are affordable for everyone and to reduce our carbon footprint, we have arranged for acquiring second-hand items.
The school keeps a stock of second-hand uniform, including logo blazers, ties, shirts and PE kit. Please contact info@oasissholing.org for further information.
We would very much welcome donations of good-quality second hand uniform.
Uniform costs and support
The academy takes the cost of the uniform seriously and works hard to ensure that those items that are required can be purchased for a reasonable price that provides good value.
If any parents are concerned about the cost of uniform items, please contact Mrs Julie Hughdie, Operations Manager, so we can explore what support is available.
