Oasis Academy Sholing Students Shine Bright for World Mental Health Day

Academy raises £500 for mental health charity.

Oasis Academy Sholing showed their vibrant support for World Mental Health Day on Thursday, 10th October, by participating in YoungMinds’ “Hello Yellow” campaign. Students and staff donned their brightest yellow attire and generously donated £1 each, resulting in an impressive fundraising total of over £500 for this vital charity.

The non-uniform day, organised by the school’s wellbeing ambassadors and supported by the prefect team, aimed to raise awareness about mental health and encourage open conversations surrounding the topic.

Academy Principal, Martin Brown, expressed immense pride in the students' dedication to promoting mental wellbeing. “The commitment shown by our students and wellbeing ambassadors in raising both awareness and a fantastic sum of £500 for this incredible charity is truly commendable,” said Mr. Brown.

Students also shared their perspectives on the importance of the initiative:

  • “It was really special to see so many people wearing yellow to celebrate mental health awareness!” added the Darcey, Head Girl.
  • “Many people our age don’t always know what good and bad mental health looks like. I’m really happy we were able to do ‘Hello Yellow’ to spread awareness,” commented a Year 11 student.

The “Hello Yellow” campaign proved to be a resounding success, fostering a positive and supportive environment within the academy while contributing to a worthy cause.

World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10th, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness of mental health issues and mobilising efforts to support mental well-being. It serves as a platform to reduce stigma, promote understanding, and advocate for increased access to mental health care around the world.
