Southampton FC goalkeeper Joe Lumley visits Oasis Academy Sholing.
Oasis Academy Sholing was thrilled to welcome Southampton FC goalkeeper Joe Lumley to the academy on Thursday, 19th September. Joe spent time engaging with students who have been involved with the Saints Foundation, as well as members of the academy’s football team.
During the visit, which was arranged by Year 9 Mentor Tom Roberts, students participated in sports games with Joe and had the unique opportunity to ask him questions about life as a professional footballer. The visit, organised in collaboration with the Saints Foundation, is part of an ongoing partnership that leverages Southampton FC to deliver mentoring and interventions aimed at helping students reach their full potential in the local community.
Tom Roberts, Year 9 Mentor and Deputy DSL at Oasis Academy Sholing, commented: "The students were buzzing with excitement. Joe's visit was a real highlight and an unforgettable experience for them. It was inspiring to see how he connected with the students, both in the games and the Q&A session. His presence has undoubtedly left a lasting impact, showing our students how resilience and hard work can lead to great achievements."
Martin Brown, Principal of Oasis Academy Sholing, added: "We are immensely grateful to Joe Lumley and the Saints Foundation for their continued support. This partnership is invaluable in helping our students grow not just academically, but also in their personal and social development. Joe’s visit exemplified the positive influence sport and role models can have on young lives. We look forward to more collaborations that enrich our students’ experience."
The Saints Foundation’s work with Oasis Academy Sholing continues to foster a positive environment where students are encouraged to aim high and succeed in all aspects of life.
