Year 9 students take part in a live event with author Tom Palmer and Holocaust survivor Alfred Garwood.
To mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a group of Year 9 students engaged in a live event with author Tom Palmer and Holocaust survivor Alfred Garwood in January. This event provided a significant opportunity for reflection on the narratives and lessons of the Holocaust, fostering empathy and understanding among young individuals.
Tom Palmer shared valuable insights on the process of writing a non-fiction story, covering aspects from research and planning to drafting and editing. The students crafted powerful narratives, with some opting to focus on the lesser-known victims of the Holocaust.
Year 9 student, Hannah said: "The experience was really interesting in that it made us look at the smaller picture when remembering the Holocaust, which made it a really impactful day, especially as we were given the privilege to write about victims' lives."
