This week, our Year 7 students met with a local author Stephen Hodgson, writer of The Tales of Helen and Lysander: A Spartan Girl and Boy.
Stephen transported students 3,000 years into the past, immersing them in the daily life and education of ancient Sparta. Students explored the different experiences of Spartan boys, girls, and slaves at school, with some saying they wouldn’t mind trying pigsblood oats for lunch!
Students asked thoughtful questions and participated in discussions, with some even dressing up as a Spartan to bring history to life. A few lucky participants received signed copies of Stephen’s book in recognition of their enthusiasm and involvement.
"I liked learning about the harsh and rigorous training - it was quite surprising to think they actually went through that!" - exclaimed a Year 7 students.
